While waiting for the new Sonic movie to come out, Henson and I decided to do a small project and make profiles for every character that is already in the movies and for those we anticipate to be introduced. But I’m bad at telling about the BTS stuff apparently, so here’s Captain Henson’s take:

While Sonic gijinka designs are a familiar sight, I was eager to bring my own unique ideas to life. When I shared my concept with Tauraffelle, who was equally intrigued, we dove headfirst into this creative collaboration. To maintain a connection to the original series, we decided to use the Sonic Channel Profiles for the pose, layout, and descriptions, ensuring our profiles were consistent yet distinct. As for the design, I wanted to give Sonic blue hair (for obvious reasons) and make her barefoot. This suited the character well, as there are benefits to running barefoot. It not only enhances the natural running gait and reduces the risk of injury but also further highlights Sonic’s free-spirited nature. Aside from those 2 elements, I mostly let Taureffelle have free reign over the design. She gave Sonic a sporty look because it fit the character. The jacket actually has an interesting story behind it. For those that don’t know, Sonic’s original backstory involved an Air Force pilot who gave his jacket to his daughter; the jacket had the Sonic emblem on the back. I won’t spoil it here, but if you’re curious, you can read the story (Supersonic Speed Legend). Taureffelle and I loved the story, so I considered incorporating the jacket into the design. We brainstormed on how to make it fit with our gijinka concept, and eventually, we found a way to connect it to the story and help differentiate our design from everyone else’s.
