I LOVE THEM!!!!

Nice to have you here and sharing about yourself and your art! I’m looking forward to exploring your site and your work more than the initial glance I’ve taken so far. I noticed you had Care Bears listed in your interests – ever do any art of them? I was raised on the original Care Bears and my kids were into the more contemporary reboots. I thought the most recent reboots were great except that they did Tenderheart dirty, shunting him off to the sidelines and barely ever including him. He was always my favorite, along with Secret.

I think I know what you mean about the older cartoons. For me there’s just something cozy about hand-drawn animation, particularly the stuff that seems “rougher”, like it’s more genuine instead of some super polished corporate production. I think newer animation is great too, but it is different, and when things are so clean it just feels like it’s lacking something, like it feels more artificial somehow. There are some newer works that seem like they’re going for the rougher look and I really like them, a few years back we went to see a Ninja Turtle movie and it had a really cool art and animation style that me and my son were discussing for a good while.

Yeah, Grumpy Bear steals the show a lot, being the odd man out. The grumpy gruff guy in the otherwise sweetly saccharine setting. He’s still great though, can’t blame people for liking him! I remember one of the older episodes where the villain of the day was in a cloud stealing all the stars, and he started shooting lightning at the bears when they came to stop him. Everyone else is running away while Grumpy uses his umbrella like a baseball bat to hit the lightning back at him. It was friggin awesome.

Anyway. I think we both need to draw some of the Bears now, because for whatever reason I’ve never done it either!
